الملخص

A suitable quantity of 2-nitroaniline and 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde were refluxed to create the Schiff base. Mn(II) and Ni(II) complexes were created using the synthetic Schiff base. They formed with a high yield. Melting point/decomposition temperature, solubility test, FTIR, magnetic susceptibility, conductivity measurement, and CHN elemental microanalysis were used to characterize the Schiff base and its complexes. A 1:2 metal ligand ratio was recommended by the elemental analysis. In contrast, the azomethine moved to a lower frequency for the complexes, indicating the creation of the intended complexes. The complexes are nonelectrolytes, according to molar conductance values. The metal (II) complexes were found to be paramagnetic based on their magnetic moment values. Pb²⁺ and As³⁺ ions were measured using the Schiff base as a fluorescent chemosensor. High selectivity and sensitivity towards Pb²⁺ and As³⁺ ions are indicated by the notable spectrum changes in the Schiff base chemosensor's absorption spectra at 295 and 395 nm as well as the color shift from light yellow to yellowish-brown. The Schiff base and its metal(II) complexes were tested for their antibacterial efficacy against a particular type of bacteria and fungi. The findings showed that while the metal complexes' antibacterial activity was lower than that of the conventional reference medication, it was higher than that of the free Schiff base.
