The Arab Metric Score (AMS) evaluates and indexes peer-reviewed academic journals originating from or focused on the Arab world. Journals are assessed against a rigorous set of quality, integrity, and impact criteria. Only journals that meet the minimum standards below are assigned an AMS score and listed in the database.

Eligibility
- Journal must be published in or primarily focused on the Arab World, Middle East, North Africa
- Must publish original, peer-reviewed research articles
- Accepted publication languages: Arabic, English
- Must have been active for at least 2 years with a continuous publication record
- Ineligible: Predatory, articles

Publication Volume
- Minimum 20 published articles at the time of application
- Regular publication schedule (minimum one issue per year)
- Consistent volume and issue numbering
- No significant gaps in publication history without documented reason

Peer Review & Editorial Standards
- Documented double-blind or single-blind peer review process
- Qualified editorial board with verifiable institutional affiliations
- Clear author guidelines, submission, and review policies publicly available
- Explicit ethics and conflict-of-interest policies
- Journals with no verifiable review process are automatically rejected

Technical & Metadata
- Must have a valid ISSN (print and/or electronic)
- DOI assignment for all published articles (CrossRef preferred)
- Structured metadata: title, abstract, keywords, author affiliations, and references
- Publicly accessible website with full-text articles
- Machine-readable formats supported (XML, PDF)

Impact & Citation
- Articles must be indexed in at least one recognized citation database
- Citation data is retrieved automatically via CrossRef and verified annually
- AMS score is calculated from a weighted formula combining citations, editorial quality, and technical standards
- Journals are re-evaluated every 12 months; score updates are published quarterly

Open Access Policy
- Both open access and subscription journals are eligible for indexing
- Open access journals receive an OA designation in the database
- Article Processing Charges (APCs), if any, must be clearly disclosed
- Compliance with DOAJ or equivalent open access standards is preferred
