Aim and objectives
To study the possible value of miR-30a (miR-30a) as prognostic marker in Philadelphia positive leukemic patients on targeted kinase inhibitors (TKI) therapy by assessing the level of miR-30a in patients who achieved complete hematological remission (CHR) and who failed to achieve CHR.
Patients and methods
This study was conducted on Philadelphia-positive leukemic patients who attended Clinical Hematology Unit, Internal Medicine Department from 2022 to 2023. The study included 70 patients with CML, 20 patients with B-ALL and 10 healthy controls.
Results
The median value miR-30a was significantly lower in resistant cases than in the response group (median 0.63 (range; 0.03 to 10.75) vs. 2.94 (range; 0.01 to 19.78), P < 0.001) in both studied groups respectively. The median value of miR-30a show no significant difference between B-ALL cases who achieved or didn’t achieve CHR (P = 0.758). The areas under the ROC curves was 81.9% (95%CI: 0.712 – 0.923, P < 0.001), with a sensitivity of 79.6%, a specificity of 92.3%, and an overall accuracy of 84.3%.
Conclusion
MicroRNA-30a (miR-30a) has a significant value in predicting CML response to TKI treatment with 92.3% specificity and 84.3% accuracy, also miR-30a was significantly lower in resistant cases than in the response group
