Abstract


Objective
This study aimed to evaluate serine peptidase inhibitor Kazal type 2 (SPINK2). Nowadays, gene expression of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in relation to disease characteristics and response to induction chemotherapy


Patients and methods
The study was performed on 40 AML patients and 40 healthy controls. Detection of SPINK2 gene expression in peripheral blood was performed by RNA extraction, reverse transcription, and real-time PCR at the Hematology Department, Medical Research Institute, Alexandria University.


Results
We have demonstrated that the SPINK2 gene was significantly overexpressed in AML patients compared with normal controls.


Conclusion
SPINK2 gene expression was significantly overexpressed in AML patients. It is possible that SPINK2 can serve as a biomarker for AML diagnosis and prognosis.
